What is Multiple System Atrophy (MSA)?

Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) is a rare, progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects several vital systems in the body. It damages areas of the brain that control movement, balance, coordination, and automatic bodily functions such as blood pressure, bladder control, and digestion.
MSA is classified as an atypical parkinsonian disorder because many people initially develop symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease, such as stiffness, slowed movement, and problems with walking. However, MSA progresses differently. usually faster, and also causes more widespread problems within the autonomic nervous system—the system responsible for regulating functions that occur automatically in the body.

About Us

Our Mission, Our Vision, Our Goal

MSA Partnership Ireland is committed to providing essential aid and support to those challenged by Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Through our collaborative  efforts, we aim to uplift vulnerable patients in our MSA community and beyond, and to provide much needed information and support resources.

At MSA Ireland, we envision a future where Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) no longer exists. Our mission is driven by compassion and a commitment to support all those with MSA. Together, with our island-wide partners and international allies, we can transform people’s lives and inspire a global movement of HOPE FOR MSA.

To mobilize resources, raise awareness, and support all patients with MSA and their carers.  By working with our international allies and engaging the local community, we can improve the lives of all people, those suffering with MSA in Ireland and other Parkinson’s related diseases, but also improving the lives of others in the wider movement disorders community.

Our Advisors

Research is the lifeline of hope for people living with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). It is through scientific discovery that we move closer to earlier diagnosis, better treatments, and ultimately a cure. For patients and families, research represents more than progress—it is possibility. Together, we call upon the entire community to be change-makers, if we change the present landscape, we forge a new way forward and a better future!
